The roots of our studio trace back to Newark, NJ, where the owner, Rosemary King-Allen, first discovered her love for sewing at the age of 8, learning under the guidance of her mother, a seamstress who mastered the skill at Essex County Vocational School. By 16, she was bringing designs to life straight from images and TV shows, crafting custom pieces that turned heads and sparked joy. At 17, she proudly walked the runway in her creations at the Newark Museum, marking the beginning of a lifelong love for fashion and design.

For nearly 60 years, Rosemary has honed her craft—not just as a seamstress and fashion designer but as a teacher, mentor, and innovator. With degrees in education, psychology, and administration, she understands the power of hands-on learning and the joy of creating something with your own hands.

Her path wasn’t straight. She's done everything from soldering fuses and land mines for the U.S. Army to selling vacuum cleaners door-to-door and even driving a tri-state limousine. But one thing remained constant through every experience: her passion for sewing and crafting.

Dreammaker Design Studio was born out of that passion. More than just a studio, it’s a space where creativity meets skill, ideas come to life, and people of all backgrounds can come together to learn, create, and express themselves. Whether you’re threading your first needle or perfecting a couture technique, this is a place where you can dream big and make it happen.
